Intern this summer with Audit New Zealand

Our summer internships help you make the right career choice. It’s a great way to get work experience that is relevant to your future career as a Chartered Accountant.

Applications for our Summer Internship and Graduate Programme are now closed.

To apply for our intern programme, you need to be in your second-to-last year of study.

The programme will give you a taste of what it’s like to work for Audit New Zealand and you’ll gain invaluable on-the-job experience over your summer holidays. We provide a different work programme for each intern, so you’ll work on a variety of clients and projects. Most of our interns get the opportunity to travel. Also, every intern spends a week working at the Office of the Auditor-General.

At the end of the internship, you’ll return to Wellington to prepare and give a presentation to our Executive Leadership Team. We’ll make job offers to those interns we think will succeed at Audit New Zealand.

If successful, you’ll go back to university to complete your studies, and start working for us as an Assistant Auditor in our Graduate Programme the following February.

Also, we know it’s hard to make the transition from student life to full-time work, so we give our interns a four-week break over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

Sinead Rennell

Interning at Audit New Zealand

I have really enjoyed my summer interning with Audit New Zealand.
I met the Audit New Zealand people at a University Careers event. They were really friendly and approachable. They clearly enjoy the work they do which makes for a great learning environment. Also the range of clients and type of work seemed to be interesting. I wasn’t expecting to be doing as much real auditing work on my own. I’ve really enjoyed that.
I have made new friends, learnt a lot and even got to spend a week shadowing the Auditor General.

Sinead Rennell is studying at the University of Canterbury and has just finished her summer internship in the Audit New Zealand Christchurch office.

Being able to work on three different audits has given me a great insight into the work Audit New Zealand does. I have enjoyed how engaging the work is and that it requires problem solving. (Evern, Wellington)
Interning with Audit New Zealand has been a great way to spend the summer. I have met some awesome people, made new friends, and put some of the theory learnt at university into practice. All in all, I would highly recommend interning with Audit New Zealand to anyone keen to get a taste of auditing. (Sinead, Christchurch)
The most pleasing surprise was the amount of real work we got to do. (Hamish, Wellington)
Finding out how the little tasks you complete within the audit process filter through to the Office of the Auditor-General and then on to Parliament has been really helpful in understanding the process. (Danny, Palmerston North)
