James' story

James Toh is a Supervising Senior, based in our Wellington office.

James (far right front row) with the year-group of assistant auditors he is training. What’s great about working for Audit New Zealand is the diversity of culture. My colleagues come from all around the world, and there are various skill-sets in the office. Audit New Zealand provides good training for its staff, and my auditing skills and management skills have developed since I’ve been here.

At Audit New Zealand our work covers different public sectors, including health, local government, and different Ministries and government departments. We also have the opportunity to travel to different areas in New Zealand to do our work.

I enjoy being a year-group manager and a mentor, and seeing Assistant Auditors develop into good auditors. There’s a good culture at Audit New Zealand, and a good social club.

New Zealand is clean and green, with open spaces. The people are easy-going and laid back. It’s easy to travel around, and, climate-wise, you can’t beat Wellington on a good day.

Since I’ve been in New Zealand I’ve followed the saying “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” So I’ve been enjoying the “religion” of New Zealand: Rugby. I support my local team, the Hurricanes, who recently won their first Super Rugby title in 21 years. I also support cricket, rugby league, netball, and other sports.
